We left home on Tuesday afternoon, about four o'clock. It was a little windy, but our trip was only about 2 1/2 hours, so it wasn't too bad. We got to our destination, Lac Qui Parle State Park, and just like the sign shows, I saw two deer as soon as we drove into the campground.
It was pretty cool during the night, probably in the high forties, and we woke to a crisp sunny morning, alone in the campground except for a tent way over on the other side.
This is my favorite time to camp. And it's even better at the end of the month when the tree are full of color.
Many of our state parks have building that were build by the CCC, and many of them are similar to this one with sturdy stone foundations.
The park had recently suffered a huge straight line wind storm, and many of the hiking trails were closed because of blowdowns.
I don't know if you can see the deer in the center of the picture, right above the shadow. It's pretty far away, and he bounded away before I could zoom in on him.
Even the wildflowers were a tangled mess from the winds, but still pretty in the morning light.

Yes, I saw the deer in the picture. Man, that is only 2 1/2 hours away from home? That is nice, close, beautiful and yet you can feel like you have really gotten away from it all.
Oh, Lac qui Parle is a beautiful park! I wish I'd have known you were so close to where I work!
