THRIFTY SHOPPING

Before meeting my daughter for lunch at our favorite coffee shop, I stopped at one of our local thrift shops. I spent $3.00 plus tax.......

A small lap quilt for 50 cents
An apron for 25 cents
A feed sack for 25 cents
An expensive table runner.......$1.50
And a faded old tablecloth for 50 cents. Well, they were all on the half price sale, so it's really $6.00 worth of treasures! All handmade. Love them! I'm going to make curtains for my sewing room with the floral table cloth. I hung the apron in the kitchen. The table runner is on the back of the futon in the sewing room, and the lap quilt will go in the rocker in the living room. I haven't decided on the feed sack yet.

Well I don't know about the feed sack either. But I do know that you have made quite a little haul there. Cold??? It is cold here!

Oh -- I would love to know what stories all those items hold! They are really cool, and what a bargain!

How about stuffing the feed sack with "pillow stuffing" and have it as a pillow for kids to use while they watch TV, etc. If it fits with your living room decor, that is.

Hey Lisa and Brenda,

I think Brenda has something there! A feed sack pillow it is! I too wonder about the stories when I see old or unusual things. I can picture my grandmother wearing that apron with the tablecloth on the table.....And I wonder if someone else's grandmother wore it....fun to think about!

My mother has always said Marge that her mom made them dresses out of feedsacks. She said back then they made them with a flower design or some design, and so I guess lots of people did that too.
You are a Savvy shopper for sure.
Have a good day!

Very interesting stuff. Some people just have an eye for the unusual and interesting. I would pass it all up as junk and not blink an eye. Until someone else does something cool with it and then I wonder why I didn't think of that.

Oh my thrifty kindred spirit, great finds!!!!! My Goodwill addiction is at its peak right now, I just have to fight buying things just because they are cheap and I don't need them.

Stay warm!

I think Marge should model the old apron beings she is going on Medicare this month and turning the big 65 tomorrow. Happy birthday dear.

Wow! You had quite a good day!

I noticed the feed sack right away! I have some burlap potato sacks that have some interesting writing and pictures on them - one is of geese flying and it says something like "North Country Potatoes."

I tack the sacks up in my basement on the wall and then I can look at them when I am puttering around down there. It sounds like that feed sack is a real hit! Heh!

I think you found some wonderful things at that thrift shop - and I sure like the price, too!!
