CONFESSION IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL

Oh, my dear people, I do have a confession to make.  I have been unable to stay out of the fabric stores in this area, and I am almost to the point of being in serious trouble.  It all started with the big store, the Fabric Warehouse, two weeks ago.  I have been wanting to make a quilt with Civil War reproduction fabrics, and I've been carrying around a pattern called Simple Star, which was made just for the Civil War inspired fabrics.  Well, two weeks ago I bought the eight fabrics for the quilt.  They are kind of muted tans, reds, and blue prints.

Then last week we took half a day off and went to Alexandria, where I knew there were two quilt shops.  At the first one I was very good.  I bought a book of Schnibble quilt patterns that I've been looking for.  And some cutesy fabric for a pillowcase for a grandson, not too bad.  Then we went to the other quilt shop where I spied the exact fabric I needed to go with the charm packs of Frolic by Sandy Gervais, so I had to get that, and two more charm packs so I would be sure to have enough.

Well, then today I really did it up good.  I went back to the Fabric Warehouse and got the backing and binding for the triangle pieces quilt, Dessert Time Quilt, that is ready to be backed and quilted.  AND, I decided as long as I was there I might as well get the fabric for the backing, border, and binding of the Civil War quilt.

And this is how I justify my spending.  I figure that I'm way out here in the state park. miles from a coffee shop.  So, I've not had a good cup of coffee for two and a half weeks.  And I've not met any of my friends for lunch.  And I've saved all that money in gas that I usually spend running into town at least every other day.  Aw, shucks.  I guess those savings don't even put a dent in the amount I've spent on fabric.  I guess it's time to admit it.  I'm an addict.  A fabric addict.  I may have to go to meetings for  my addiction.

Hello, my name is Marge and I'm a fabric addict.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way Marge. The way I see it, you saved money! The fabric warehouse must be less expensive than a small town specialty fabric store. You would have purchased these fabrics at some time to finish your projects. So....money saved! I would call it good planning.

At least you will have some fun projects to work on during the rainy weekend!

You're right, Linda! It was good planning! Thanks for the excuse.

Jeanne, it's been raining for four days, is raining now, will rain tomorrow, maybe not on Wednesday but then Thursday on through next weekend! And I have fabrics to cover Noah's forty days and forty nights raining, so bring it on!

I love your rationalization. I'm taking lessons and going to start using it myself. I think you're "right on, Baby."

How many worse addictions could you have? That's how I look at my photo addiction. It's a creative outlet, and it brings joy to others when I share photos with them through shutterfly. oops. Is that an advertisement?

Your quilting is nearly a lost art, so the way I see it, besides bringing joy to those you share your beautiful projects with, you are preserving an art form!

How's that to help you see this for what it is? I think you're also teaching your grandkids to appreciate beauty and creativity and to use their time giving and serving others. Your gifts are true gifts, I'm certain.

We have a very nice little quilting store in our town, "Quilting on Main". Even though I don't quilt (except for three blue jean quilts some 20yrs ago), I just love to go in the store to see all the gorgeous colors. If you need another source, I think they're online! I guess that might make me an enabler?

You would not be a true quilt person if you didn't have a bunch of material!!! It is that way with all crafts yu gotta have more so that you don't get "bored"You don't want to get caught with nothing because than you may have to finish projects you started. At least that is my outlook on things

Are you telling me there's a group that meets for fabric addicts? Where do I sign up? I was standing in my sewing room the other day, only able to turn in a small circle because there's so little room to walk or move around, and thought to myself, if I live to be 150 and sew every day, I'll never get through all this fabric. I definitely need help. Oh, and I also continue to buy more. But it's so fun, and I just think about how much fun my kids will have cleaning it all out when I'm gone.

Well I think you certainly deserve it, the material, the break from the hard work at the park and all the cooking and cleaning you must be doing. Plus putting up with all those people at the camp sites. Oh yes, you deserve fabric, lots and lots of fabric.
Stay dry, please be careful and enjoy your time.
